Bible study 12 – Genesis 12

Abram, Sarai and Lot go to Canaan, but there’s a famine there, so they go to Egypt instead. Abram asks Sarai to say she is his sister, so nobody will kill him to take his wife. This is a smart move, because when the Pharaoh himself (!) sees how beautiful Sarai is, he takes her and gives Abram lots of sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female slaves, female donkeys, and camels (in that order) for her. (I really like how the human slaves are just casually thrown in between the donkeys.)

But sleeping with someone else’s wife, even unwittingly, is apparently a sin, because God afflicts Egypt with plagues, which forces Pharaoh to send Sarai back to Abram and to expel them from Egypt.
