Bible study 39 – Genesis 39

We return to Joseph’s story (wait, why did we suddenly leave this story for Judah’s unrelated interlude in the first place?), and we’re going to follow him until the end of Genesis.

Joseph has been sold to some high ranking guy in Egypt as a slave, but thanks to God’s magic he’s always very successful with everything he does. His master picks up on this and exploits it by just making Joseph run all his affairs. Unfortunately he is also incredibly handsome, and his master’s wife tries to seduce him. When he refuses to sleep with her, she claims that he assaulted her, and Joseph is thrown into the dungeons.

Depending on exactly when this took place, Joseph was likely taken to either Memphis or Thebes (capitals of Ancient Egypt at different times).
