One more furniture is added to the tabernacle tent: an altar on which incense is to be burned.
All Israelites older than 20 years are ordered to pay a fixed sum of money “for the service of the tent of meeting” (the tabernacle); and the tabernacle priests (Aaron and his sons) are ordered to wash well before going into the tabernacle tent.
Two super-holy recipes are given: one for a super-holy anointing oil, and one for a super-holy incense.
Take the finest spices: of liquid myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, two hundred fifty, and two hundred fifty of aromatic cane, and five hundred of cassia – measured by the sanctuary shekel – and a hin of olive oil; and you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil (…).
