This chapter concerns the sin offering. Whenever someone sins unintentionally, they have to present an animal to Aaron to be sacrificed in the tabernacle. Its process is a kind of a mix of the burnt offering and the sacrifice of well-being; the whole animal is burnt, but only the fat is burnt inside the tabernacle. The rest is burnt outside. (The blood is, as always, splashed all over the tabernacle altar.) Different animals have to be sacrificed depending on whether the sinner is a priest, the entire nation of Israel, a chieftain, or a normal person.
He shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting; and the rest of the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering…
