Bible study 170 – Deuteronomy 18

God will send down new prophets, but the Israelites must at the same time be on the lookout for false prophets. There are two ways to identify a false prophet:

1) If they are killed by God.
2) If their prophecies are proven false.

Unfortunately, God’s own prophets are also frequently killed by God; and Moses has already explicitly stated that false prophets’ prophecies sometimes come true. Also, how does the foreign seer Balaam fit into this?

Deuteronomy 18:10-11
No one shall be found among you who makes a son or daughter pass through fire, or who practices divination, or is a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, or one who casts spells, or who consults ghosts or spirits, or who seeks oracles from the dead.
