Bible study 196 – Joshua 10

When the king of Jerusalem hears that Gibeon has betrayed Canaan, he gathers four other kings to attack them. But Joshua comes to Gibeon’s aid and repels the attack, with much help from God’s hailstones raining on the Canaanites from the sky. As all this happens, the sun and the moon apparently stand still at Joshua’s command.

When the battle is over, the five kings hide in a cave. But Joshua finds them, and has them executed and buried in the same cave.

After this, the Israelites goes on a murderous spree where they conquer every major city in southern Canaan, and annihilate their populations.

Joshua 10:39
… he took it with its kings and all its towns; they struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed every person in it; he left no one remaining; just as he had done to Hebron, and, as he had done to Libnah and its king, so he did to Debir and its king.
